Gretchen’s Favorite Things

Among Gretchen’s favorite things to do are, besides teaching creative writing workshops: foraging for mushrooms in the forest, picking blueberries, chopping wood, hanging out with goats and chickens, drinking excellent coffee, watching birds out her kitchen window, reading a book by a fire, and swimming naked in summer ponds. Things she’s really proud of in her life include (but are not limited to): being a member of the Youth Conservation Corps and building trails and bridges in the Wasatch Mountains outside of Salt Lake City, winning first prize in the Utah Make it With Wool Contest, graduating from the University of Maine Extension Master Gardener Volunteer Program, serving as a hospital chaplain, riding a camel during an overnight trek in the Sahara Desert, knowing how to use a chainsaw, helping her partner remodel two houses, and, of course, baking a REALLY good blueberry pie.
